About Lisa Reeder and a local notion

I am a proud graduate of the University of Virginia (Comm ’96) and the Natural Gourmet Institute for Food and Health (NYC, Chef’s Training Program 2003).  I’ve been working with and around food for fifteen years now – highlights include (in Charlottesville, VA) work at Hamiltons’ at First and Main, Harvest Moon Catering, and feast!, and a three year adventure (in New York) that included positions in sales, daycare cheffing, brunch cookery, and as chef/demonstrator for a federal nutrition study.  In 2007 I began offering consulting services in Central Virginia under the name a local notion, llc. and spent several years learning about localized food production (as detailed in these blog entries).  What an experience!  In 2010 I began working at the distribution center of Local Food Hub, a non-profit organization working to secure a regional food system in Central Virginia.  My role in Purchasing, Sales, Marketing, and Farm Services is daunting and gratifying, and relies upon every aspect of my experience in the food industry.  I consider myself the luckiest gal in local food, and continue to write and teach and cook and eat and be thankful every day.

  1. Hi Lisa-
It’s neat to read about your food adventures.
    Warm regards,
    Erika

  2. Hi Chef Lisa,

I don’t know if you remember me but last year I took one of your cooking lessons at the IRC. I told you about how that summer I was going to work at Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in NY. We exchanged emails but I some how lost it and never got a chance to tell you how it went, anyway it was great! Just the other day I was reading the article you wrote in the Edible Blue Ridge and thought I would write you.
Well I hope to hear from you soon!
    Sabrina

  3. Hi Lisa!! I just want to let you know that I just love reading your blog (Timmy does too!). It’s so interesting, informative and well-written with the added spice of the Reeder wit!! If your blog was food, I’d eat it! …but only if it was local, of course. Miss you and hope to visit during my next C’ville jaunt. Much love to you, your family, your four-legged friends and your garden. xoxoxo the other Lisa
